Sappi Ngodwana Mil l requires a Hardwood Checker to assists the hardwood operator to ensure the smooth running of the chipper, addressing all non-conformances, breakdowns, problem solving from the log receiving deck conveyor to the hardwood chip pile.
- Assist with the start-up and shut down of the plant
- Ensure the plant is running according to required rate and quality specifications
- Monitor the mud on the clarifier tank
- Monitor disk scalper dump chute and clean as required
- Take chip samples for testing as per BOP
- Check auxiliary equipment regularly during shift
- Assist the operator with the changing of knives as and when required
- Perform routine inspections and clean and or report defects as necessary
- Perform late and or non-routine tasks
- Remove blockages / foreign materials on the chipper and conveyor systems
- Identify abnormal / emergency plant conditions and take corrective action according to standard (BOP)
- Isolate plant as required (Authorized Operator)
- Perform house keeping with the team – focus on area of responsibility
- Report unsafe conditions to the hardwood operator and Shift Superintendent
- Understand and comply to the SHEQ requirements of the position
- Matric (Maths and Science) or N3 Pulp and Paper
- Experience in a Production Environment will be advantages
